I wanted a universal system that parts weren't insanely expensive to replace and that didn't use proprietary software. Aside from Epilog (and machines that use their nano firmware) being largely over priced, the whole reason I didn't end up buying their machine was because I didn't want to deal with exactly what you're dealing with. Additionaly if you get Lightburn Bridge, you can connect wirelessly without any router that may be built into the laser itself, which usually requires you to disconnect from Home network, and connect to the lasers independent network, which is a an extreme pain. Haven't quite figured out how to set "orgin". With mine, the directional buttons on the machine are difficult to control, as the can skip 2-3mm with the slightest tap. Plus, when you add your laser profile to Lightburn, you can control header and gantry location right from Lightburn. Cut, Fill, and Image (photo engraving), so technically you have 81 presets, 27 for each. So far, I just set all the layers to appropriate settings and save as a project titled under appropriate material. Im relatively new to engraving, so the library feature is still an intimidating mystery. Lightburn has so many amazing features like saving materials profiles based on layers as well as libraries and features similar to Illustrator, including masks, shape modes (path finder) editing anchor points and handles, and more. Illustrator won't send direct, but is super easy to save as DFX and then import to Lightburn. Those are the ones i know, at least.ĬorelLASER requires to run with CorelDRAW LaserDRW seems to work as a standalone or as an Inkscape extension, but most mentions of it i saw were negative Meerk40t works as a standalone with imported files with some available extensions, the developer seems to actively work on it, but i had issues with USB connection K40 Whisperer worked for me.Īmen to that. The board works with a few softwares (for the cutting part, not designing): CorelLASER, LaserDRW, Meerk40t, K40 Whisperer. So if you have a laser cutter with that board, this might apply too. In case anyone reads this in the future with similar issues: People who were having issues with USB connection too commented that K40 whisperer would connect fine to the USB and it worked for me too. Update: K40 whisperer worked! I was attempting Meerk40t (i saw a recommendation for it while searching up stuff) but it wouldn't connect the USB. I've also tried looking online but all i find are website of laser cutting companies that only detail preparation procedures, not for cutting itself, since that part is on them. I have been trying to look for help, but the machines importer is very dead set on using CorelDRAW (even in context of products that don't need a secondary software, hence my questioning if it would be really needed to use that software and Corel or if it's just them not mentioning alternatives to their preference). The software in question is CorelLASER.ġ) Is there a chance this software would run simultaneously with Adobe Illustrator? (Feels unlikely due to the name, but who knows)Ģ) Is there a chance Adobe Illustrator, alone, can be used to send a file for cutting (directly to the machine)? If yes, how?ģ) If the answer is no to the 2 above questions, is there a chance the machine is compatible to another laser cutting software, that works with Adobe Illustrator? Hello! I've recently got a laser cutting machine that was accessible to me, but there is a small problem: the software they recommend to use to send out for cutting is for simultaneous use with CorelDRAW, while i hugely prefer to use Adobe Illustrator.
